Storm Summary and Projection: Hurricane Summary POSTED: December 13, 2009 4:05 a.m.
Atlantic Basin Remains Quiet
November 30 marked the end of the hurricane season in the Atlantic Basin. The 2009 season featured two depressions and nine tropical storms. Three of the tropical storms became hurricanes. Two of
those hurricanes were major hurricanes. On average, 11 named tropical storms occurred during the hurricane season, with six reaching hurricane strength and two of those becoming category 3 or higher.
Based on this, the 2009 hurricane season was less active than normal, as predicted by AccuWeather.com. The current weather pattern across the basin remains quiet, as it should be this time of year,
and it's unlikely we will see any late-season development any time soon.
